Weekend Vibe: White Jeans

Meredith Albert

This weekend we are feeling the white jean vibe.  We don’t know if it’s the super hot weather, the beaming of the sun, or the nearing of the end of summer.  We just know that this is the mood we’re feelin’!  If you don’t have a pair of great white jeans, get them now, or you’ll be missing out!  Some people shy away from wearing white bottoms.  Let us help you dispel some of these myths and rumors.

whitejeans.jpeg

One of the biggest reasons why people may avoid wearing white jeans is because they think they’ll get them dirty.  But really, how many times have you spilled something on yourself?  Or sat somewhere without looking first?  Not many times.  So this shouldn’t stop you.  Another hesitation some may have for wearing white jeans or pants is believing that they are all see through, exposing more than one wants.  In some instances, yes.  Fabrics can play a role.  The lighter and sheerer the fabric, the more that will show through.  However, if you buy the right pair and in the right thickness of fabric, they will not show a thing.  Wearing nude, not white, undergarments will not show under white.  Wear a nude color that blends in with your skin tone.  Another huge myth about wearing white jeans is that white can make you look bigger.  This is not true!  The style of pant or bottom will determine how you look, not the color.  Finding the perfect fit in white jeans will make all the difference in how you look and feel!

So don’t shy away from wearing white jeans.  They are the staple jean color of the summer.  They give any outfit a chic, edgy, and clean look!  Happy Summer!!

Carefree

Meredith Albert

We recently read a meme that said August is the Sunday of summer.  To think that there’s only one month left of summer is… well… let’s just not think of it that way.  Let’s look at it as a full month ahead of us to enjoy all the pleasures of summer!

carefree.jpg

Nobody needs to be reminded of what’s to come.  We all know.  We don’t need stores to try and sell us school and winter stuff.  Even if we must dabble into fall preparations, let’s not stay there too long.  Let us still enjoy buying summer dresses, white jeans, suntan lotions and funnel cake.  There is still plenty of time to hit the beach for a weekend getaway or a weekday “sick” day from work.  We still want to enjoy outdoor movies and pool parties.  We want to take warm, night-time summer strolls and eat brunch on outdoor patios.  And we don’t want to feel rushed or have anxiety trying to fit it all in.

Let’s look at August as a month with plenty of carefree summer days.  It’s a reminder month to get out, soak in some rays, feel the warmth, enjoy the leisure, and absorb the fun times with your family and friends!

Happy Summer!

Something Special

Meredith Albert

We have some special events coming up.  More specifically - wedding type of events.  It got us thinking, how do you choose what to wear for these occasions?  We know locations and time of the events can narrow the choices down, but for the most part, it’s still an event that’s lighthearted, pretty and celebratory.  If you’re like us, you’ve called several of your friends who are also guests hoping to get some ideas on what to wear.  The one thing we can all agree on is what not to wear - white!  That’s the one fashion rule that should be followed.  So... what should we wear?

somethingspecial.jpg

When we think of weddings, and events surrounding weddings, we think of pretty flowers, chic colors, and elegant fabrics.  Use that as your guide to what you can wear.  Floral prints are very popular to wear to wedding events because they are feminine, soft and pretty.  It perfectly fits into the theme of love and romance.  If floral prints aren’t your thing, choose to wear happy colors or brighter shades of darker colors.  Instead of deep and dark colors like navy and brown, choose a pretty royal blue or melon shade or yellow hue. You want to choose colors that feel light, and emit joy.  Remember, pastels are always a good option.  Fabrics can make all the difference in how you look, regardless if you wear a dress or a nice pair of pants and a blouse.  Avoid elements that are too rough and tough.  It can give a harsh look.  Try fabrics that flow or drape like silk and chiffon.  Lace and ruffles are perfect details to wear for these types of occasions.

somethingspecial2.jpg

No matter where the event is held or what kind of event it is, you’ll want to look special.  This is a very special time for your friends.  You will be part of their important events and surrounded by their close friends and families.  You’ll want them to feel special by also looking special!

Staycation

Meredith Albert

We recently talked about jetting off to somewhere far, warm, and pretty for our vacation.  But what if a staycation is in the cards this summer?  No worries!  There are no shortage of fun and engaging events happening in our area.  From beer gardens and festivals, to art and theater showcases, and so much more.  Staycations can be just as much fun as a traditional vacation!  Maybe even less of a headache with no major traffic and traveling.  The key is planning.

Staycation.jpg

Staycations can be super busy with activities, or just simple and relaxing.  Even a little bit of both!  Planning your time and thinking a little ahead of what and when you’ll do something will help it feel more like a vacation.  We don’t mean scheduling your week… that’s the opposite of a vacation!  We mean having mental notes of things you may want to do.  Know what’s going on in your area in the event you want to get out of your house and enjoy some sun and entertainment.  Or plan a day of cooking fun at home like making a foreign dish or having breakfast for dinner and dessert for breakfast.  Visit an area of your city that you haven’t been to before or spent much time in.  The luxury with a staycation is you don’t have to go far for fun.  Fun can be in your backyard or just a neighborhood away.  The more creative you are with the activities you plan, the more memorable and enjoyable of time you’ll have.  Whatever way you choose to spend the summer, make it light, entertaining, and easy!

Vacay Vibes

Meredith Albert

Tickets?  Check.  Hotel?  Check.  Car rental?  Check.  We are all packed and ready to go.  Vacation here we come!  After the long, never ending winter we had, this vacation is long overdue.  This trip will be a relaxing one.  No touring... no excursions... no sight-seeing...  Just laying by the pool and the beach with a drink in hand and a book to read.  The hardest decision we will make is where to eat!

vacayvibes.jpg

Also what's no fuss is our wardrobe.  We will spend most of the day in a bathing suit.  When we do get dressed, we want something practical, easy to put together and something that can transition from day to night if need be.  The first thing in our suitcase is a jersey fabric, summer dress with a floral print.  This can be worn with flip flops, nice sandals or white chucks.  The fabric is travel friendly and usually requires no ironing.  Also, we’ve packed some basic T’s for throwing on, and some bright colored tops when we want to amp up our look a little.  Finally, we’ve packed some shorts and one jean that can tie in almost any top with any shoe for day or night - the Moto Skinny in Galaxy.  You’ve seen us feature this jean before and there is a reason why.  It covers so many features in just one jean!  First, it can be worn with any shoe, day or night.  Next, its dark color can be perfectly dressed up at night when you go out to dinner or for drinks.  Lastly, the moto style gives it a funky edge, and elevates your look with just a simple detail.

vacayvibes2.jpg

We hope you are looking forward to your summer vacay just as much as we are!  We hope you are able to relax, enjoy your company and de-stress from life’s chaos.  Your only worry should be about how much fun you should have!

Happy Summer!

Office Cool

Meredith Albert

It’s been hot.  Really hot.  The kind of hot where the slightest of movements will make you sweat.  While we would love to spend all of these hot days by the beach or pool, some of us have to work!  You know, to afford times when we can spend some days by the beach or pool.  For many of us, that means work clothes in the sweltering heat.  But have no fear, there are many ways to keep cool even if you have to wear pants or jeans to your office!

First and foremost, choose a lighter weight fabric.  Stick with light weight cotton, linen or rayon fabrics.  Even for tops.  These types of fabrics are comfortable, lighter in weight, have breathability, and usually dry fast when wet.  Similarly for denim, find lighter weight denim fabrics for your jeans.  The lighter the fabric, the more breathability they have.  You can usually feel the difference between heavier and lighter weight denim.

officecool1.jpeg

Next, choose looser fits.  The more space you have in your clothes, the more air is able to flow through and the cooler you will feel.  Bootcut, straight leg, and wider leg trouser fits are ideal in this instance.  If skinny fits are all you have, a neat cuff or hem roll can help expose more of your skin to air for cooling.

Finally, balance your long pants or jeans outfits by exposing more skin with your tops and shoes.  Open toe shoes or sandals are usually okay in many office environments.  Especially in the summer.  As long as they are not flip flops.  Sleeveless tops normally work in the office.  Spaghetti straps might be pushing it.  However, even if your office has a rule against these types of tops, a cardigan or light weight blazer will give you the coverage you need while at the office.  Depending on your office attire protocol, you may be able to get away with wearing both.

officecool2.jpg

Sometimes, the weather is so hot and humid, even if you were in a bathing suit, you would still feel hot.  Our goal for work attire in the summer is to stay as cool as possible, yet maintain professionalism.  Summer dresses and skirts are of course are a no brainer with it comes to  your office wardrobe mix.  Just remember that pants and jeans can work just as well!

Happy 4th of July!

Meredith Albert

We love the 4th of July!  It’s the one of the least stressful holidays of the year!  Everyone is happy, excited about summer, and ready to celebrate.  We usually don’t fret over what we’re doing or where we’ll be.  We just know that we’ll end up somewhere with good people and great food.

happy4th.jpeg

Everything about this holiday is fun.  The food is always abundant and deliciously not the healthiest.  The fashion is always patriotic, playful, and carefree.  The company is always celebratory and cheerful.  Everybody wants to have a good time.  And who doesn’t like a night that ends in fireworks?!  We wish you and your family a very happy and safe holiday!

Happy 4th of July!!

Rules Reversed

Meredith Albert

It’s summer.  Officially.  And Finally.  Bring on the summer dresses, white jeans, floral prints, sandals and boots and velour!  What?!?!  That’s a faux pas, right?  We have “rules” for not wearing summer clothes in the winter.  Do the “rules” reverse for the summer?  We know, our blog is all about fashion freedom - not following the rules... being an individual.  However, after the long, never-ending winter many of us experienced, we just assumed that everyone burned their winter gear.  Okay, not burned it, but certainly packed it away.  Ours are stowed deep in the back of our basements and we are hoping not to touch it again until, hopefully, late fall.  So, why are we still some winter fashions in the summer?  It’s part pushing the fashion envelope and part displaying future Fall 2018 fashion trends, if you can believe it or not.

rulesreversed.jpeg

Many of us look forward to shedding the heavy winter layers in the summer.  We feel a sense of freedom of not having to wear so much.  That doesn’t mean we need to ditch everything from the fall and winter.  Just like some summer fashions can transition into winter, there are some winter fashions that can be worn in the summer.  Think booties.  If there’s one fall piece that can work easily with summer clothes, it’s the booty.  They aren’t a cumbersome shoe, and only cover the foot just a tad more than a pump.  Picture a floral summer dress, a cute boater hat and some light tan booties.  This outfit is perfect for a summer, breezy day!

Still not convinced?  Here’s a fashion industry fact - while summer clothes are currently in stores and being advertised, fashion companies are in fact currently preparing for fall.  Behind the scenes, nearly all fashion businesses are in the process of building and securing their fall fashion pieces that you will see and want to buy in the fall.  Why now?  It’s necessary for clothing vendors that make the clothes have the time to produce the products in time for fall.  Most of the fashion industry works six to nine months ahead of schedule.  That’s why spring runway shows are displaying fall fashions.  They are predicting, showcasing, and influencing what you may see and wear in the fall.  They enlist fashion influencers such as celebrities and models to help wear these future fall trends now, to get us thinking about what’s to come.

We aren’t mentally there yet.  You might not be either.  We do not want to rush summer!  Especially considering it literally just began.  So, don’t fret over what’s to come.  Let’s leave that to the industry.  When the time comes, we’ll start thinking about it.  Until then, let’s enjoy the warm sun!

Wrap It Up

Meredith Albert

As you’re out shopping this late spring and summer, you are bound to find a large selection of wrap style dresses and shirts.  The wrap look has been around for a long time and continues to stay a staple in wardrobes, as well as a trend.  When most of us think of wrap dresses, we think of Diane Von Furstenberg, who popularized this trend with her brand in the 70’s.  Today, most brands carry a version of a wrap dress as a part of their collections.  And now, the wrap style can be found in the form of coats and tops too!  There’s even the faux wrap look where  the actual wrap of the dress or top is sewn into place.

wrapitup.jpg

Why is this style so popular, even today?  The first, and probably most important, reason is the fit.  The wrapped look is very flattering on every body type.  Yes, everyone.  The style is very forgiving and adjustable.  Certain wrap dresses and tops hug around the waist adding definition to your silhouette.  The typical v-neckline cut is sexy yet feminine.  The overall style leaves you looking chic and classic.  Another reason this style is always popular is because of its versatility.  There is not an occasion that this look wouldn’t work for.  Whether in solid colors or prints, long sleeve or short sleeve, heels or flats, pulling off this look is super easy and it always looks great!

This timeless look is one you can certainly pull off.  There are so many variations in cut and style, you can easily find one that works best for you!

Upgrade Dad's Wardrobe

Meredith Albert

Father’s Day is right around the corner.  We know we need to get him a gift but we don’t fret about it as much as we would for a Mother’s Day gift.  Why?  Dads are usually pretty easy going when it comes to gifts.  They generally have a signature style that’s pretty much classic, practical, and unassuming.  Not all dads are this way, but a lot are.  Let’s face it, some dads aren’t the most stylish person in the family.  That’s doesn’t mean he doesn’t always look nice, put together and handsome.  It’s just that his wardrobe may not be as fashion forward or as trendy as it can be.  This Father’s Day, let’s upgrade his wardrobe!  Let’s refresh two typical items in his closet with a modern version.

dadswardrobe.jpg

Let’s take jeans.  There are “mom jeans” that ironically are a fashion trend right now.  There are also "dad jeans."  We all know the type of jeans that most dads wear - usually pretty loose fitting, faded and lighter in color, and not a lot of shape or structure to it.  After all, he uses his jeans for comfort and lounge wear.  Let's upgrade his jeans with something more clean looking, darker, and less baggier.  Not skinny jeans, more like a straight leg or boot cut.  Let’s show dad he can still feel comfortable and relaxed in a jean that’s closer to his body, with a little more shape and in medium or darker wash.  He’ll look casual, yet sleek.

Similarly, we can say the same for shorts.  Is your dad still wearing cargo shorts?  Or pleated shorts?  Or a shorts version of his jeans?  Let’s up his shorts game with something neater looking and less busy.  Plain front, straight fit shorts will do the trick.  And just like jeans or a simple white T, shorts can also be dressed up slightly.  A darker color would work perfectly for casual weekend wear or to an al fresco dinner date with your mom.

Father’s Day shopping doesn’t have to seem mundane.  We can give him a modern, nicer version of those items he likes and often wears, or those things he might not regularly spend extra money on.  After all, he deserves the best… because he is the best!

Wardrobe Reinvention

Meredith Albert

As the weather stays warmer and we wear less layers, fashion typically takes on a more simplistic look.  Sometimes it’s just too hot for all of the effort we may normally put into getting dressed.  So how do we stay stylish with less?  Reinvention!  It's redefining or restyling items in our wardrobe.  It can be as simple as pulling an outfit and swapping out a part of it with something unconventional or unique.

Let’s take summer dresses.  This is one staple we all have in our closets.  With our summer dresses we typically wear some form of sandal.  Next time you pull out a summer dress, swap out your sandals for sneakers.  Sneakers aren’t just for jeans or workout gear.  A sleek, simple sneaker with a summer dress gives the outfit a completely different and stylish vibe.  An easy, no fuss swap for a modern look.

wardrobereinvention.jpg

Another effortless swap can be with accessories.  We all have accessories in our closets that have busy prints and eccentric shapes that we sometimes don’t know how to wear or style.  Instead of relying on your trusty monotone handbag, try glamming up a basic shirt and jeans outfit with a funky hat or colorful bag.  A beautiful silk scarf can transform into a necklace, a belt and even a bracelet!  We can do a lot with so little!

Let’s face it, we all want to look and feel stylish, but sometimes that can be a lot of work.  We don’t have, or want to spend the time to plan our outfits in advance.  However, interchanging accessories and shoes with our everyday clothes can quickly elevate our outfits and our looks without all of the fuss!

Summer Kickoff

Meredith Albert

While it feels like it took forever to come… summer is here!  Kind of.  Although it’s not technically summer, Memorial Day Weekend marks the unofficial beginning of summer and everything that summer brings including fun, relaxation, and travel.  For one, the weather feels warmer and the sun shines brighter.  Many activities and projects for work and school start to wind down.  Instead, outdoor festivals, beach trips, and playdates at parks fill our calendars.

summerkickoff.jpg

We also unofficially kickoff the barbecue season and indulge in summer foods like juicy fruits, summer salads, fresh corn, ice cream and other delicious summer treats.  Memorial Day Weekend is also usually the first time many of us will head to our local beaches, pools or lakes since the summer before.  Wearing white is no longer a “faux pas” although who really adheres to those fashion rules anymore?  But in the event you were wondering, this weekend is the perfect weekend for white!  It’s almost like the holiday uniform… white jeans or shorts and a blue or red top.  Celebratory and stylish.

As you’re out celebrating the unofficial start of summer with official summer activities, you can also celebrate this American holiday with American made Sebastian McCall Jeans.  A perfect fit for the weekend and summer!

Basic Needs

Meredith Albert

It seems April showers have moved into May.  The weather outlook is a little dreary, although we are thankful that the temperature is remaining moderately warm.  This is definitely t-shirt and jeans type of weather.  Or what about tank top and jeans weather?

basicneeds.jpg

Tank tops are usually an afterthought when it comes to shopping for clothes.  We have them, use them, and need them, but we don’t actively and as excitedly run out and go tank top shopping.  It’s the item you often add to your cart right before you check out.  Yet, if you can’t find one when you need one, it the biggest pain!

Why?  As simple as a tank is, it is super versatile.  If we really thought about how much we use tanks tops, we might think differently of its stature in our wardrobes.  A simple tank top works pretty much perfectly under just about anything…a collared shirt, overalls, jean jacket, etc.  And of course, during really hot days, it’s one of our go to summer tops.  Sure, there are ones with prints, ones made out of  fancy fabrics, and others with embellishments.  However, our favorite one is the simple white tank.  One of our favorite looks is a white tank, black blazer and jeans.  You can rock this look with just about any shoe for any event.  It always looks stylish, classic, and suitable.  Tanks tops are a no brainer to stylize and can save you in a pinch.

So don’t wait until the heat of the summer to start wearing your tank tops!  You can get a lot of use out of them now.  You can wear them as a layering option during the spring weather, and they are perfect for the day and night.  While it’s a basic item, it’s also a must have.  So, next time you’re in the check out aisle, don’t hesitate on that tank top purchase!

Celebrating Moms

Meredith Albert

In just a few days, we will be celebrating moms.  We will celebrate everything they do, sacrifice and accomplish for their families.  We will thank them and tell them how much we appreciate everything they’ve done for us.  And if you are blessed to be a mom, you will be the recipient of such gratitude.

celebratingmoms.jpg

We don’t always wait for this day to tell them this, but it’s the day we try and go the extra mile to make them feel super special and celebrate this one role of many that they have.  No matter how old you are, the advice, comfort, and love of your mom is never too much.  In fact, don’t we all, maybe just a little, find relief when we are with our moms, because we know they are looking out for us?  Similar to the way you always have your eyes on your children.  Regardless of where you are or who you’re with.  It’s instinctual for moms.

So moms, as you are being celebrated this year, we hope you truly know how much you are adored, cherished and loved!  Enjoy your day.

Happy Mother’s Day!!!

Sebastian McCall Jeans 8 Years Later...

Meredith Albert

This week, we celebrate Sebastian McCall Jean’s anniversary!!!  For eight years, we’ve strived to bring you the best fitting American made jeans.  In a recent post, we spoke about all of the fundamental details that we obsess over when making our jeans.  That was to give you some insight into how important every element is to us when we make Sebastian McCall Jeans.

8yearslater.png

When you remove trends, colors, distressing, and other fashionable characteristics that we do to reinvent the basic denim jean from season to season, at the core of what people look for in all jeans is a great fit.  Our brand was created to perfect the jean fit.  No matter the silhouette, style, or body type, we wanted every jean to fit perfectly and we knew that everybody could find their perfect fit in a jean.  Today, and for the future, Sebastian McCall Jeans will continue our mission…bringing you the perfect fitting jean!

It's In The Details

Meredith Albert

Not all jeans are made the same.  We know this.  We can see the difference… we can feel the difference.  But really… what actually separates one pair of jeans from another?  Is it the details?  Details like the quality of denim fabric, stitches per inch, thread count, twill weave, rivets, fabric spinning, etc.?  The cut?  The fit?  It’s actually all of the above.  They are all important components that are used in the construction of a pair of jeans.  These are details that you may overlook or not pay attention to, but details that can and will make a difference in the final denim product.  Should this information ultimately matter to you?

inthedetails.jpg

The answer is yes.  Let’s start with our goal when shopping for jeans.  When we look for a pair of jeans, our first goal is finding the perfect fit.  Without this, nothing matters.  No matter how expensive, inexpensive, hand made, or detailed the jean is, if it doesn’t fit right, we aren’t buying it.  And jeans are one of the few items that we refuse to compromise fit on.  Maybe that’s why jean shopping can seem daunting.  Our expectations are high and unwavering.

It’s also in the details that we pay less attention to.  Like the color of the stitching which can define the shape of a jean, the placement of rivets, which are used to reinforce certain areas of the jeans, or the quality of fabric that will determine overall fit and lasting quality.  While most of us aren’t inspecting our jeans for the details mentioned above when we buy a pair, these elements are some of the most important components that go into making a quality jean fit great.  They are the details that, all together, make the best pair of fitting jeans.   When any of these aspects are omitted, curtailed or skimped, we can see and feel the difference in the jean.  At Sebastian McCall Jeans, we don’t compromise on any part of the development of our denim.  The perfect jean fit is the foundation of our jeans and our brand.

Monochromatic: Navy

Meredith Albert

We love monochromatic looks.  That should be no surprise to you if you read our blog!  Some monochromatic looks are easier to pull off and put together than others.  Some colors just might make more of a statement than you want.  Navy is definitely not one of those colors!  We can say confidently that navy is a color that looks great on everyone - men, women, young, mature… even kids.  Navy is a universal hue.  It complements all skin tones and is an exceptional shade on pretty much all apparel and accessories.  It’s as universal as black and white.  And for that reason, we are featuring navy for our monochromatic style highlight.

monochromaticnavy.jpg

Pulling off a monochromatic navy look is simple.  There is a natural spectrum of navy that will reveal itself when you put several navy shades together.  Different fabrics and textures will especially highlight these characteristics.  By the same token, these differences are what gives the look character and balance.  Little details such as copper or gold buttons, or metal tone hardware on accessories, add a subtle contrast and an element of pop.  We find that the end result of a monochromatic navy look is both refined and chic.

Bring to Light

Meredith Albert

Dark jeans are like a comfy sweater.  We know exactly how we will feel when we wear them, they are our go to when we can’t decide on anything else, and they never let us down!  Light jeans are more like that one shirt you don’t want to get rid of because it’s super cute, you will wear it again, one day, but you just know it requires just a bit more thought.

It’s true.  Dark jeans pretty much go with anything.  You can dress them up or down, and the darker color does a great job at blurring things out that we want blurred.  At least in our own eyes.  That doesn’t mean we should give up on lighter jeans! In fact, just the opposite!  Light jeans are very flattering.  They give your look a soft and feminine feel.  And they pair easily with just as many colors - it will just depend on the look you are trying to achieve.

Light wash jeans tend to be a bit more casual.  They don’t work quite as well for a more formal event, however, you can get them dressy enough to wear to a nice dinner or night out in the town with friends.  Light wash jeans, similar to white jeans, can show everything.  So, fit and wash will make all the difference on how you will look and feel in the jeans.

bringtolight.jpg

Lighter colored jeans pair better with the extreme shades of the color spectrums -  either light colored tops or very dark tops.  Wearing a light colored shirt with light jeans will bring out the whiteness in the jean.  Pastel colors work great with light jeans.  The whole look is soft and feminine.  Medium colored tops do work, but we find they tend to simplify the look with neither piece standing out.  If you want more contrast, pair the light wash jeans with a bolder, darker color.  It lets each piece stand out on its own.

There are enough light shade ranges in denim that finding the lightest hue you are most comfortable wearing isn’t hard.  Finding the perfect fit is a non-negotiable!  You can bring new life to your wardrobe by expanding your denim color collection with just a simple shade change.  Let us help you find that perfect pair!

Weekend Vibes: Florals

Meredith Albert

Florals are big this spring.  We feel like we say that every Spring.  But it is true.  It is a typical spring print.  Why?  It’s just one of those patterns that transitions easily from season to season.  It’s versatile, playful, flirty and feminine.  You can dress it up or down.  There are many color schemes and patterns to choose from.  Or it can add the perfect pop of color or statement to any outfit!

florals.jpg

Despite what the weather forecast is, we are ready for spring weather!  Even the buds of the trees are beginning to bloom.  Here are some floral outfit inspirations to get you in the spring mood.  Because regardless of the weather forecast, these looks will make you feel light and pretty, just like the weather should be.

To Bare or Not to Bare

Meredith Albert

The new high-waist trend that is prevalent in the fashion industry, currently, has given new life to the crop top styles of the 80s and 90s.  We are seeing crop tops worn with pants, jeans skirts, leggings and shorts of all styles and fits.  If you think you’ve outgrown this trend or don’t feel like your have the body for it… you may want to reconsider.  The key to conquering this trend is to find the right way to wear it for your body.

bareornottobare.jpg

First, find your comfort level with how much you are willing to bare.  Crop tops come in varying lengths from as short as the edge of your undergarment to as long as reaching your belly button.  Likewise, there are varying rises when it comes to the waist lines on pants and skirts.  Some fall below your belly button, at it, or above it.  When pairing your crop top with your bottom, you can create a combination that will allow you to show as much skin as you are comfortable baring and wearing.  If baring your belly button is not an option, wear a higher waisted jean or bottom.  If you don’t mind showing more midriff, but don’t want to look like you’re wearing a bra, opt for a crop top that is a little longer.  There are so many styles that will meet your need.

Next, choose a crop top with a flattering silhouette and fabric.  Choose a style that has structure, and looks polished.  You’ll want to balance the style of your crop top with your bottom.  If you top is flowy or embroidered or has a busy print, keep your bottom simple and more fitted.  And vice versa.  Don’t forget, crop tops also have varying sleeve lengths and styles.

Crop top looks can be very flattering, so play around with all options to see which styles you like best.  Whether you are tall or slim or shapely or curvy, there is a crop top look for you!
